One of LSU’s starting offensive tackles returned to the practice field Monday while the other’s status remains very much in doubt.
Right tackle Toby Weathersby participated in Monday’s typical pad-free practice after missing LSU’s 27-23 victory over Auburn. He worked at his customary spot on the first-team offensive line.
Left tackle K.J. Malone was not present for the media viewing portion of practice, as expected. The senior was spotted on crutches Saturday, and LSU coach Ed Orgeron said earlier in the day that he didn’t expect Malone to practice this week.
“I think he’s questionable for a questionable amount of time,” Orgeron said with a chuckle.
Freshman Saahdiq Charles worked at left tackle with the first-team offensive line, where he’s played since Malone went down with a knee injury against Florida. Adrian Magee started in Weathersby’s place against Auburn.
Safety John Battle also participated in practice after missing the Auburn game. It should be noted he did practice for much of last week too.
“I can see him practicing this week,” Orgeron said. “I can see him being limited, but I can see him practicing.”
Here’s more notes and observations from practice:
– Starting safety Grant Delpit was absent from the media viewing portion of practice. He didn’t appear to sustain an injury against Auburn. Battle and Eric Monroe were the first-team safeties during drills.
– Defensive back Xavier Lewis and F-back Bry’Kiethon Mouton were both back at practice after a two-week absence for undisclosed reasons.
– Quarterback Lowell Narcisse was practicing in a No. 20 red scout team jersey, so it appears he’ll be spending his week mimicking Ole Miss quarterback Shea Patterson.
