The LSU infield just got a bit less crowded.
Sophomore infielders Rankin Woley and Mason Templet are transferring from the program, LSU coach Paul Mainieri told Tiger Rag in a text message Monday.
“Both of these young men have decided to continue their baseball and academic careers elsewhere,” Mainieri said. “We wish them nothing but the best.”
Woley was productive during his freshman season as a pinch hitter and part-time designated hitter, posting a .267 average (12-for-45) with four doubles in 26 games (8 starts). He was suspended for a violation during fall ball.
Templet generated some hype before his freshman season, but that never translated to tangible results on the field. He leaves LSU hitless in six career at-bats.
Their departures leave LSU with 33 players on their roster, two below the NCAA maximum of 35. Right-handed pitcher Eric Walker doesn’t against that number because he’s already been ruled out for the season due to Tommy John Surgery.
