LSU’s top target at quarterback for its 2019 class is back on the market. Grant Gunnell, the No. 2 ranked pro-style passer in the country for next season’s signing class and the Tigers’ primary priority under center in 2019, de-committed from Texas A&M on Twitter Tuesday night.

A 6-foot-6, 212-pound four-star, Gunnell is the No. 49 prospect in the country, per 247Composite. He committed to Texas A&M in June 2017 when the Aggies were still coached by Kevin Sumlin. A&M fired Sumlin and hired Jimbo Fisher following the 2017 season.
The St. Pius X (Houston) quarterback tossed for nearly 5,000 yards and 60+ touchdowns in each of the past two seasons.

Gunnell visited LSU for junior day in January and will return to campus this weekend, per 247Sports, for another visit on his way to a 7-on-7 tournament in New Orleans.
LSU, Arkansas, and TCU join Texas A&M in the race for Gunnell. The Tigers currently have six 2019 commitments in a year where Louisiana is rich on talent. LSU did not sign a quarterback in its 2018 class, which ranked 15th in the country – its lowest ranking since 2002 – a year after signing two in Myles Brennan and Lowell Narcisse.
Heading into spring under new offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger, LSU has just three scholarship quarterbacks on its roster: Brennan, Narcisse, and redshirt junior Justin McMillan.
