Ed Orgeron and his staff have made recruiting Mississippi one of its top priorities for the 2019 cycle.
That emphasis started to pay dividends on Saturday night.
LSU landed a pair of commitments on the defensive side of the ball from two of the 15 best prospects in Mississippi. Four-star defensive end Jaren Handy and three-star linebacker Zach Edwards both announced their commitments after spending Saturday on campus for unofficial visits.
Handy is a top-100 prospect nationally and presently considered the No. 7 defensive end in the 2019 cycle, according to 247Sports. Edwards is rated the No. 12 inside linebacker after compiling 125 tackles and 11 sacks during his junior season at Starkville High School.
The pair of pledges brings LSU’s 2019 class up to eight pledges and is presently the No. 3 class in the nation, according to 247Sports.
