LSU began the first of 15 spring practices inside on a rainy Sunday morning here in Baton Rouge.
Things were a bit chaotic, in part because of the lack of a finalized roster, but here’s some observations, notes and videos from the first practice of the spring:
– Cornerback Kristian Fulton practiced. Ed Orgeron said last month that his status remained “up in the air” after sitting out all of last season. However, its unclear if his participation is relevant as he practiced all of last season.
– Tackle Saahdiq Charles did not participate in practice after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery. He stood on the side and watched as offensive linemen went through drills under new coach James Cregg. Austin Deculus participated despite a large cast on his right wrist.
– David Ducre worked with the running backs. He’s expected to more to the position full time as LSU looks to build depth behind Nick Brossette, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Lanard Fournette.
– Jersey numbers for LSU’s mid-year enrollees, as best as we could figure it out: Terrace Marshall (6) Travez Moore (49) Badara Traore (74) Zach Sheffer (34) Damien Lewis (68) Tae Provens (25) Cole Smith (67) Micah Baskerville (23) Davin Cotton (54)
– Safety Ed Paris participated on a limited basis. He missed most of last season after undergoing knee surgery.
– Nose tackle Ed Alexander and freshman Davin Cotton were present but did not participate in practice.
