Tremont Waters announces he will return to LSU in 2018-19

LSU basketball’s fortunes continued their upward trend Tuesday night, as Tremont Waters announced on Instagram he would return to the Tigers for his sophomore season.

”Throughout the process of visiting NBA teams and working out, it’s been a blessing that words can’t describe,” he wrote. “I grasped a greater understanding of the difference between college and NBA!! It’s done nothing but help me grow and understand the severity of the next level.

“In my heart I believe and know that I’m capable and willing to do whatever it takes to make it at the highest level right now…I have some improving to do but I’ll be up there soon to give the NBA a headache too…but I feel it’s best to return to LSU this year and continue to improve as a player, teammate and most importantly a young MAN!”

Waters, a New Haven, Conn. native, averaged just under 16 points and 6 assists his freshman season in Baton Rouge, both team-highs and enough to land him on the SEC’s All-Freshman squad.

The 5-foot-11 point guard declared early for the 2018 NBA Draft, but because he did not hire an agent, he is eligible, now that he has withdrawn from the draft before Wednesday’s deadline for NCAA underclassmen.

Waters’ return coincides with a top-five 2018 signing class that has LSU ranked in several preseason top 25 polls heading into year two under Will Wade.

“Many know this, many will figure it out, and many will feel it first hand,” Waters wrote. “THE SQUAD HAS SOME SERIOUS UNFINISHED BUSINESS.”
