LSU is continuing to strength the cornerback position for the future after missing out on key targets in 2018, and Ed Orgeron and Co. went back to ever-reliable recruiting grounds of Houston to do it.
2019 cornerback Marcus Banks committed to the Tigers on Sunday morning, two days after arriving on campus in Baton Rouge for an official visit. Banks is a three-star prospect, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, but is seen as a player on the rise headed into his senior season.
Banks gave his verbal pledge to LSU over competing offers from the likes of Alabama, Texas A&M, Georgia and Auburn. Many sites considered Denakey High product to be a Texas A&M lean before this weekend.
LSU now holds two cornerback commitments for 2019 after failing to sign one in 2018, as Banks joins four-star Memphis corner Maurice Hampton. The Tigers remain in hot pursuit of elite five-star corner Derek Stingley, the No. 1 corner in the class. The Baton Rouge native will announce his decision on June 20 at 1:30 p.m.
Now holding 12 commitments, LSU currently sits at No. 9 in the class rankings for 2019, according to 247Sports.
