The LSU quarterback room got a bit more crowded on Thursday.
Walk-on quarterback Alex Aucoin has joined the program and practiced for the first time on Thursday afternoon. Aucoin, who was the starting quarterback at Parkview Baptist, took one of the roster spots opened up by the transfers of Lowell Narcisse and Justin McMillan.
Wearing jersey No. 5, Aucoin took part in individual drills during the media viewing portion of practice, which was moved indoors due to thunderstorms. He lined up behind Joe Burrow and Myles Brennan, who’re competing to start, and fellow walk-ons Andre Sale and Jordan Loving.
CHANGE OF PLANS
LSU altered its practice schedule for Thursday and Friday ahead of Saturday’s preseason scrimmage No. 2, which is set for 11:30 a.m. at Tiger Stadium.
The Tigers practiced without pads on Thursday afternoon to give a number of banged-up players a bit of a break after what’s been a physical last week of camp. LSU will have a walk-through on Friday afternoon — meaning no media viewing — ahead of the scrimmage.
LINEMEN RETURN
Guards Garrett Brumfield and Chasen Hines and tackles Badara Traore and Cam Wire all returned to practice on Thursday, though the lack of pads make it difficult to gauge their participation levels.
On a semi-humorous note, Hines has also changed jersey numbers from No. 52 to No. 57. Yes, that does indeed make him Hines 57.
