Orgeron: OL Adrian Magee will play Saturday against Ole Miss

LSU will get a much-needed boost on its offensive line with the addition of Adrian Magee LSU coach Ed Orgeron said after practice Thursday.

Magee, who hasn’t seen action since injuring his left leg against Miami in the season opener, will likely play at left tackle, but Orgeron said he could possible play inside as well.

“There will be some rust,” Orgeron said. “But he’s going to play.”

Orgeron also added that offensive tackle Saahdiq Charles remains questionable and linebacker Ray Thornton is ready to go.

He pointed out a couple players as stepping up this week during practice, notably wide receivers Dee Anderson and Stephen Sullivan.

He also praised sophomore offensive lineman Austin Deculus for stepping up in a major way at right tackle during the early part of the season.

“He’s still doing what we like him to do,” Orgeron said. “He has some improvement. If we have to give him some help we can. … His run blocking has really improved, he’s won some one-on-ones this week. He’s still going to get tested. We’ll see what he does.”

LSU will unveil a statue of legendary former athlete and Heisman Trophy winner Billy Cannon on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Orgeron said he hopes he and some of the stuff hope they will be able to attend the event, but it will depend on whether they will have the time while preparing for Saturday’s game.

“If we can be there, we will,” Orgeron said of the ceremony. “Obviously we have meetings and all the stuff that we have to do. A couple of us will be there if we don’t have a meeting.”

Orgeron came out of practice pleased with how the day went, saying the Tigers looked focused and ready for the challenge that awaits them in Ole Miss on Saturday night.

“I thought it was our best Thursday practice all year,” Orgeron said. “We’re fired up to play this game. I can feel the emotion. I can feel the excitement of the players. They know what’s at stake.”

He said the Tigers are excited for the first home Southeastern Conference game of the season, especially with the late start time of 8:15 p.m.

Orgeron said the Tigers will need all that energy to take down the rival SEC West opponent considering the high-powered offense the Rebels will bring to Tiger Stadium.

With an offense led by NFL-caliber receivers in A.J. Brown (26 receptions, 381 yards) and D.K. Metcalf (18 receptions, 368 yards) who have combined for seven touchdowns through four games, Orgeron put the challenge on the defense to step up after struggling last week and pressure Ole Miss quarterback Jordan Ta’amu.

“We have to put pressure on the quarterback,” Orgeron said. “We can’t let him just sit there. There’s no way we can cover those receivers all day.”
