Ed Orgeron: Thaddeus Moss expected to get snaps against Georgia

Ed Orgeron said tight end Thaddeus Moss will likely get snaps this weekend in LSU’s highly-anticipated game against No. 2 Georgia, but probably not as many as the coaching staff would like under normal circumstances

Moss is yet to play for the Tigers since transferring from NC State, and Orgeron said implementing him into the offense should add value to LSU’s offense.

“He’s ready,” Orgeron said. “I don’t’ know how many plays he’s going to get. We want him to get more plays, obviously, than I think he’s going to get Saturday. But if he gets 10 to 15 plays I think that would good.”

Orgeron said offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger likes using two-tight end packages, but the Tigers have been limited, sometimes using wide receiver Racey McMath to get things done.

Moss will allow Ensminger and the offense to use those packages in a more natural way.

Orgeron said quarterback Joe Burrow bounced back in practice this week after his toughest performance of the season against Florida.

Burrow threw his first two interceptions of the season in the fourth quarter against the Gators and he spent most of the game under duress as he was sacked five times in the game.

“He’s been good,” Orgeron said. “He didn’t skip a rep this week. He was very sore on Monday, but he didn’t say a word and took every rep. He’s healthy and ready to go.

“He’s a little angry at himself. He feels he should have played better. So does the whole team.”

With Georgia’s stout defense coming to town, Orgeron said Burrow and the offense need to step up and exploit the few mistakes he expects the Bulldogs to make.

The Bulldogs don’t show many weaknesses on the defensive side of the ball, as they stop both the run and the pass effectively. Orgeron said the Tigers must said the players and the coaching staff will both need to come up big Saturday.

“They’re so good at their coverage, it makes it hard for guys to get open,” Orgeron said. “A team that can stop the run and play two high, that’s a great football team. That’s what they do. It makes it hard for us to run the football, and it makes it hard for us to throw the football against two high.

“We’re going to have to get them in certain situations. We’re going to have to call the right plays. We’re going to have to be physical, we’re going to have to win the line of scrimmage and, most of all, we’re going to have to take care of the football.”

Orgeron also ruled out nose tackle Tyler Shelvin and wide receiver Dee Anderson for the Georgia game due to injury.

He said he expects Stephen Sullivan to step up and fill in for Anderson, who has been a favorite third-down option for Burrow.
