Hall of Fame fullback and former LSU Tiger Jim Taylor passes away on Saturday morning at the age of 83, the Green Bay Packers announced.
Taylor, who rushed for 8,207 yards and scored 91 touchdowns in his nine seasons with the Packers from 1958-66, was the first of the Vince Lombardi Packers to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Born in Baton Rouge on Sept. 20, 1935, Taylor grew into a star at Baton Rouge High School before enrolling at LSU. Taylor transferred to a community college for a year due to struggles in the classroom, but he returned to LSU for his junior year and helped form one of the most decorated backfields in football history.
Taylor rushed for 1,314 yards and scored 20 rushing touchdowns during his LSU career and received All-American and All-SEC honors in 1957. He shared the backfield with Billy Cannon, who went on to lead LSU to a national championship the following season and won the Heisman Trophy in 1959.
