Keith Hornsby’s LSU career is finished.
The senior, sidelined for the first seven games of the season and the last four, underwent a season-ending medical procedure this week in Baton Rouge, LSU announced on Thursday.
Hornsby, who LSU head coach Johnny Jones has frequently called “the hardest working player I’ve coached in 30 years,” re-aggravated the sports hernia injury that cost him LSU’s first seven contests late in the first half of the Tennessee game on Feb. 20. The Williamsburg, Va. native said he heard multiple pops and was in severe pain. In a media session last week, Hornsby said he wasn’t sure he’d be back for the year, but would still try to provide leadership from the bench.
“I’m still going to be there doing whatever I can to help them win, whether that be shaking someone, keeping them on their toes, or positively motivating them,” Hornsby said last week. “It has improved, but it still hurts doing little things, like sitting down.”
As a senior, Hornsby averaged 13.1 points per game, shooting 41.5 percent from 3-point territory. In his four seasons as a college player (two at UNC-Asheville, two at LSU), Hornsby scored over 1,000 points.
