While National Signing Day has long since come and gone, LSU has added one more blue chip prospect to its already impressive 2016 recruiting haul.

McDonogh 35 defensive end Sci Martin announced Monday that’d he’d be signing with LSU. The talented pass rushed chose the Tigers over finalists Alabama and TCU.

Martin’s stock rose sky high as the cycle wore in thanks largely to a monster senior season. The New Orleans native registered 61 tackles, a whopping 33.5 sacks and forced five fumbles from his weak side defensive end spot.

“I think he’ll be a guy with great speed; a guy from the city,” LSU coach Les Miles said Monday at the school’s annual Pro Day. “A guy that can play. A good student. So we’re excited about it.”

Wanting more time to weigh his options, the one-time TCU commitment waiting to make his decision. He was originally scheduled to make his announcement Friday, but severe storms and flooding prompted a school closure and put the announcement on hiatus until Monday.

Martin is the 24th and presumably final prospect to sign on the dotted line as part of LSU’s 2016 class. He joins a group of edge rushers that already includes Edna Karr’s Andre Anthony, Denham Spring’s Caleb Roddy and Texas product Rahssan Thornton.

With Martin on board, LSU’s 24-man class now includes 17 in-state signees.

“I think this state has more hidden gems,” Miles began. “I think you just have to come in and do a great job evaluating. If you do, I think you’ll end up with 18-to-22 guys from the state of Louisiana.”
