LSU sports has been linked to another scandal.
An audit into the alleged embezzlement of $810,000 from Our Lady of the Lake hospital in Baton Rouge led to administrators notifying LSU general counsel regarding “two questionable issues.”
The news stems from alleged fraud on the part of John Paul Funes, formerly the head of the O.L.O.L. Foundation. Funes was fired on Nov. 6, which led to hospital administrators ordering the audit of the foundation’s documentation.
LSU confirmed via a statement that the issues in question related to LSU athletics. The school didn’t specify what programs were involved, but it released a response to the hospital’s audit.
“Both findings were reported to the NCAA in 2018. One of the findings is not believed to be a matter of compliance or an NCAA issue,” read the LSU statement. “The second finding involves the hiring of a parent of a former LSU student-athlete from 2012-2015. The university is actively working with the NCAA to resolve this issue.”
According to multiple sources, the parent in question is the father of former offensive lineman Vadal Alexander.
Investigators requested LSU have no further comment. Details of the audit have not yet been made public.
