Will Wade will not testify in upcoming college hoops trial

LSU head basketball coach Will Wade will not take the stand in the upcoming trial of wannabe agent and college basketball middleman Christian Dawkins and fellow basketball consultant Merl Code set to begin Monday as federal judge Edgardo Ramos granted federal prosecutors’ request to preclude him and Arizona coach Sean Miller, who were previously subpoenaed.

Ramos ruled Friday that the testimonies Wade and Miller would be “irrelevant” to bribery charges against Dawkins and Code.

Defense attorneys in the case announced their intentions to subpoena Wade prior to the Yahoo Sports report that revealed a wiretap in which Wade seemingly made a “strong-ass offer” to a third party related to the recruitment of Javonte Smart.

The wiretapped conversation was part of a second of three wiretapped conversations the FBI reportedly wiretapped between Wade and Dawkins.

The ruling means Wade will avoid finding himself in further hot water, at least in the immediate future as he won’t be forced to speak about his relationship with Dawkins or the recorded conversations under oath.

LSU announced that it had reinstated Wade as the program’s head basketball coach Sunday after a 37-day stalemate in which Wade refused to speak with the program until last Friday (April 12).

On Wednesday, LSU athletics director Joe Alleva stepped down from his position, allowing the university to hire Baton Rouge-native and Texas A&M AD Scott Woodward for the position.
