LSU women’s track & field athlete and U.C. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association women’s track athlete of the year Sha’Carri Richardson will trade in her scholarship for a career.
Richarson announced Wednesday via Twitter that she will forgo her remaining NCAA eligibility to become a professional athlete.
Richardson flew into the record books last weekend at the NCAA Championship Track & Field Meet when she ran a 10.75-second 100-meter dash, breaking the women’s NCAA record.
The freshman phenom tallied 20 points for the Tigers in the meet after finishing second in the 200-meter sprint and the 4×100-meter relay.
Richardson joins fellow freshman and pole vaulting sensation Armand “Mondo” Duplantis to announce intentions to go pro in the week following the end of the track & field season.
