LSU shouldn’t be short on left-handed pitching in 2020.
Southpaw Brandon Kaminer was added to the LSU roster on Friday morning, Paul Mainieri announced.
The coach hinted at the move at a press conference a few weeks ago, but LSU needed to wait for Kaminer to graduate from Wallace Community College before announcing his signing.
Kaminer will enroll this month and has two years of eligibility remaining. He’ll join freshman Jacob Hasty and redshirt-freshman Easton McMurray to give LSU three left-handed options this season.
“Brandon is a nice addition to our pitching staff,” Mainieri said through an official release. “Obviously, we have been in great need of left-handed pitching, and he will add to our staff in this critical way. He is a strike thrower with an advanced feel for his change-up and slider. Combined with a mid to upper 80s fastball that is capable of getting into the low 90s, we are of the belief that Brandon can contribute quickly to our pitching staff.”
Listed at 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds,Kaminer recorded an 8-2 mark last season at Wallace CC with 64 strikeouts in 60 innings. He was a two-time All-Broward County selection at Stoneman Douglas High School, where he posted a 22-0 career mark.
Adding Kaminer to the roster puts LSU at 36 players headed into the fall. LSU must drop down to 35 by the start of the spring semester, per NCAA rules.
