A year after LSU added the nation’s No. 1 high school cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., the Tigers gain another stud corner with Elias Ricks making his commitment official early Wednesday on the first day of the early signing period.
Ricks is the No. 2 cornerback in the 2020 class and the top-rated prospect from the recruit-heavy state of Florida. Ricks is originally from Santa Ana, Calif. where he played for west coast football powerhouse Mater Dei before transferring to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
Ricks has stellar instincts and ball skills. He can battle bigger receivers with his physicality, which also serves him well in run support in addition to his coverage skills.
Stingley’s freshman campaign this season, highlighted by being named to the Associated Press first-team All-American, is a tough act for anybody to follow. But with senior Kristian Fulton vacating his spot opposite Stingley, Ricks has the opportunity to instantly become a starter.
LSU originally offered Ricks on his unofficial visit in February 2018. Ricks committed on Christmas Day the same year and has taken two visits since then, with his official visit coming against Texas A&M.
