LSU junior wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. did his very best to be a team player.
The best NFL draft prospect on a 3-4 team gave it his all, but finally decided Sunday the risk was too great to finish the season.
Marshall announced on Instagram he’s opting out with three games left in the 2020 season to preserve his health for the 2021 NFL Draft.
ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. ranked Marshall in latest Big Board draft list as the 21st-best draft-eligible prospect and the No. 4 wide receiver
“Since a kid, to play in the NFL and to retire my parents has been my #1 mission,” Marshall wrote in his Instagram. “After careful consideration but with faith, I have decided to declare for the 2021 NFL Draft.”
Marshall ranks third in the SEC in receiving yards (731) and touchdowns (10). He has 23 touchdown catches in the last two seasons.
LSU hosts No. 1 Alabama Saturday, then plays at No. 6 Florida on Dec. 12 before finishing in Tiger Stadium vs. Ole Miss on Dec. 19
If Marshall wanted to sit out the year he could have done so. Two weeks ago he stepped up and said he wanted to be a leader. In 14 days he has decided to quit his team and quit on his teammates. He was a great player and will be a successful NFL receiver.
He will always be remembered as the great player who quit on his team when they needed him most. If I were an NFL team owner or coach I’d question his character and his ability to survive during tough times.
Well it started with players deciding to skip bowl games, then came this year with the “Opt Out” option. I fear we have reached the point where now any player who can get drafted by the NFL is apt to quit his team as soon as his agent tells him he can get a big payday. I don’t recall hearing about players “opting out” at Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame or Ohio State. Have we reached the point where, unless your team is playing for a national championship, you are likely to lose your best players at any point in the season? It is interesting that hundreds of players stay for 4 years at schools all across the country who have no chance for a championship and in fact may have little chance to even get on the field, simply for the love of the game.
you have 112th ranked defense in the nation and you are praising Bo –no wonder Marshall is leaving –he sees the ignorance!
