LSU’s 2017 recruiting class picked up a massive commitment out of the Long Star State on Friday afternoon — literally.
Cy-Fair offensive tackle Austin Deculus, listed at 6-foot-6 and 323 pounds, committed to LSU via twitter and announced he’d be shutting down his recruitment after his team’s spring football game.

According to 247 Sports Composite rankings, Deculus is a four-star prospect and the No. 10 offensive tackle in the nation. He’s also listed as the No. 5 overall prospect in the state of Texas.
Deculus, recruited primarily by Jeff Grimes and Bradley Dale Peveto, chose LSU over offers from Alabama, Michigan, Texas A&M, Houston and Baylor, among others. According to 247, he attended LSU’s Junior Day back in February and was back on campus again in April for an unofficial visit.
LSU’s 2017 haul now stands at eight verbal commitments, with Deculus joining fellow Texan Edward Ingram — a hulking 6-foot-4, 325-pound guard from DeSoto High — as the class’ second offensive line pledge.
