The third five-star signee from LSU’s Class of 2020 has his eye on a departure from the program.
Sophomore cornerback Eli Ricks, who was lost from the team with a season-ending injury, reportedly has plans to enter his name in the NCAA transfer portal.
An attempt for comment from his mother Shauna Ricks was unsuccessful.
LSU head football coach Ed Orgeron couldn’t confirm the reports during Monday’s weekly news conference.
Should Ricks follow suit and leave LSU, he would be the third five-star member from the Class of ’20 to do so along with defensive back Marcell Brooks and tight end Arik Gilbert.
Ricks stepped into a difficult situation last season where he was expected to get picked on at a much higher rate playing opposite All-American cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., who wound up missing three full games because of injuries.
He earned third team All-American honors by The Associated Press, second team All-SEC laurels and landed a spot on the SEC’s All-Freshman team with 31 tackles and four interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns.
The pairing of Stingley and Ricks only last three games this year when Stingley was lost for the season following the Central Michigan game (Sept. 18) with a foot injury that required surgery.
Ricks started in three more games when a recurring shoulder injury resulted in surgery for a torn labrum and ended his season after the Oct. 9 game with Kentucky.
The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. native, who played his senior season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., had 11 tackles, two pass break-ups and an interception.
Ricks played in 16 games in his career, had 31 tackles with five interceptions and two touchdowns.
