LSU’s Michaela Rose was named the 2022 SEC Women’s Outdoor Freshman Runner of the Year, the conference office announced on Wednesday.
Rose has competed for LSU 16 different times this outdoor season and has shown continued promise for what is to come. The talented freshman from Suffolk, Virginia, will represent LSU as a member of its 4×400 meter relay squad at the NCAA Outdoor Championships next week.
Rose’s performance of the season was a runner-up finish at the SEC Championships in the 800 meters. She ran a personal best time of 2:02.49 to finish second and her time was the seventh fastest in LSU history and ninth best in the country this season.
Additionally, the time made Rose the fastest freshman in the country in that event this year.
A dual-event star, Rose also competes in the 400 hurdles. She clocked a career best of 57.62 to win her first career individual collegiate event title at LSU’s Joe May Invitational in April.
Rose picked up wins as a member of LSU’s 4×800 meter relay at the Texas Relays (8:34.54), and helped the 4×400 meter relay to victory at the Joe May Invitational (3:29.88).
Rose becomes LSU’s fifth women’s winner of the SEC Freshman Runner of the Year award joining the likes of Sha’Carri Richardson (2019), Ruby Stauber (2017), Jasmin Stowers (2011), and Takeia Pinckney (2010).
