The state’s top women’s basketball recruit in the Class of 2023 is a gold medalist for a second time.

Parkway’s Mikaylah Williams, an LSU commitment, was one of five double-figure scorers Sunday that helped the United States to an 84-62 victory over Spain in the gold medal game of the FIBA U17 World Cup.

Williams, a member of the USA’s three-on-three gold medal-winning team in 2021, added another gold medal to her collection with 10 points that included a pair of 3-point baskets. She also grabbed six rebounds and handed out two assists.

Team USA completed a dominating seven-game showing during the U17 World Cup by breaking open a 36-26 game at halftime. Led by the 13 points of tournament MVP JuJu Watkins of Los Angeles, California, who is an uncommitted college prospect, the U.S. outscored Spain 48-36 in the second half to pull away for the victory.

Williams, who committed to LSU on June 24, was part of a balanced scoring effort for a talented team of head coach Sue Phillips. She averaged 18 minutes per game and shot 37% from the floor with 8.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists in seven games.

Williams is the nation’s top-ranked player in the Class of 2023 according to ESPN’s HoopGurlz.com.
