LSU kicker Colby Delahoussaye injured in car crash that killed two other college players

Accident occurred overnight in Wisconsin

LSU kicker Colby Delahoussaye was injured in a car accident overnight in Wisconsin that claimed the lives of two other football players, according to a news release from Waukesha (WI) County Sheriff’s Department.

LSU later confirmed that Delahoussaye “suffered minor injuries” in the crash, via an official release. He was treated for unspecified minor injuries at Waukesha Memorial Hospital, where he was later released, and is scheduled to return home on Monday. 

After attending Kohl’s Kicking Camp in Wisconsin, Nebraska punter Sam Foltz and Michigan State punter Mike Sadler were killed in a car crash, the Lincoln Journal Star reported Sunday morning. Delahoussaye was in the backseat of the car, which crashed at 11:43 p.m. Saturday when Sadler, the driver, lost control on wet pavement and struck with a tree, according to the police report.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of Sam Foltz and Mike Sadler,” LSU coach Les Miles said in an official statement. “We grieve for them. This isn’t supposed to happen to young people who have so much to live for.

“We are so thankful that Colby will be able to return home to his family and friends.”

Delahoussaye, a senior, was set to once again compete for LSU’s starting place kicking duties, which he held in 2014. He’s from New Iberia.

Trent Domingue took over as the primary field goal kicker last season, but he left the program after his one-year scholarship wasn’t renewed. Domingue announced via twitter on Sunday morning that he’d be enrolling at Texas.
