The only two notable absences from the first day of LSU camp were left tackle Maea Teuhema, which was to be expected, and outside linebacker Tashawn Bower, which wasn’t.
Les Miles said Wednesday that the former was dealing with an ankle sprain after reporting to camp with a walking boot on his left foot. The coach elaborated on the sophomore’s condition on Thursday afternoon.
“I think it’s a day-to-day issue,” Miles said. “Might be seven days.”
As for Bower, Miles downplayed the severity of his absence without providing much in the way of detail about the senior’s ailment.
“He’s got a little nick,” Miles said, invoking the oft-used Les-ism for a mystery injury. “We expect that he’d be back in the next couple of days.”
With Teuhema absent, K.J. Malone took first-team reps at left tackle during the morning session. Corey Thompson worked as the outside linebacker opposite Arden Key with the first group.
NEWS & NOTES
– Freshman Caleb Roddy, listed on the official roster as a defensive end, worked at tight end Thursday afternoon, which Miles indicated will be his primary position moving forward. “He’s a big horse that can catch it,” Miles said. “He’s going to be a good player.
– Freshman Lloyd Cushenberry played center during the afternoon session, which Miles later confirmed will be his position for the foreseeable future at LSU.
– Miles said fullback J.D. Moore, who practiced in the morning, is back to full health after having “a great summer.” Miles also pointed out Moore’s perfect run through the gauntlet drill.
