LSU softball moved fast in the NCAA transfer portal to fill a key void in its pitching staff.
The Tigers, who lost freshman Alea Johnson to Alabama earlier in the week, secured a commitment from graduate transfer Kelley Lynch of the University of Washington. The 5-9 native of Newman, Georgia also played first base for the Huskies (44-15) which advanced to the Women’s College World Series and were eliminated by Stanford, 1-0.
Lynch announced her commitment to LSU on her Instagram account. She joins senior-to-be Ali Newland and sophomore McKaela Walker as Georgia natives on the 2024 Tigers’ roster.
Lynch started in 40 of 52 games for Washington in 2023, going 9-3 with a pair of saves, three shutouts, 101 strikeouts, 2.43 ERA in 77.2 innings. She also batted .276 with six doubles, three homers and 20 RBIs.
Lynch was the national high school player of the Year in 2019 at East Coweta High and the two-time Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year.
Over her career, Lynch was 25-14 with 12 complete games, four shutouts and 308 strikeouts in 241 innings. She batted .265 with 20 homers and 96 RBIs. She combined on a five-inning no-hitter against Oregon State last season and posted a complete-game 7-0 win over San Diego with 11 strikeouts.
Lynch was a third team selection to the All-Pacific Region team, striking out 101 batters and holding opponents to a .178 batting average. A year after COVID-19 shut down the 2020 season, she was a member of the All-Pac 12 freshman team with a .271 average, six homers and 32 RBIs.
