Josh Williams, the seasoned running back at LSU, has had a rollercoaster of a career in Baton Rouge. He was there for a national championship win, a disappointing 6-7 season, and even a coaching change. With all his experience and wisdom gained over the years, he was called upon to speak up during a players only meeting after the team’s third consecutive loss. And speak up he did, echoing the sentiments of the entire team but also offering valuable advice from his own journey. Head coach Brian Kelly praised Williams’ leadership and how it positively influenced the younger players on the team. This newfound maturity was evident in their focused and deliberate practices leading up to their game against Vanderbilt, which they went on to win 24-17. Williams not only motivated his teammates off the field, but also backed up his words with an impressive performance on the field. He finished the game with 90 yards rushing, including several tackles broken thanks to his rugged style. By halftime, he already had 62 yards on just six carries and two catches for 30 yards. His physical presence helped secure the victory for LSU as he and freshman running back Caden Durham combined for 27 yards on their final drive, ultimately running out the clock for a well-deserved win.
