TE Evan Engram vs. S John Battle
Chad Kelly has a bevy of big, fast wide receivers to throw to, but make no mistake, the Rebel passing game is built upon his connection with Engram. The 6-foot-3 senior tight end is a matchup nightmare who will line up on the line of scrimmage, in the slot and even split out wide. He’s too big for most cornerbacks to tackle and too fast for linebackers to keep up with in space. Dave Aranda can throw some different looks at Engram, but the onus will fall to Battle, making his second start in place of Rickey Jefferson, and fellow safety Jamal Adams to keep Engram from running unchecked down the middle of the field. And when Engram does catch it, it’s equally paramount they’re able to get him on the ground. He can do damage from anywhere on the football field.
BY THE NUMBERS
98.3 — Engram leads Ole Miss with 98.3 receiving yards per game, and no other Rebel receiver is averaging more than 55.2 YPG
253.5 — LSU’s defense limited the up-tempo attacks of Missouri and Southern Miss to 253.5 yards per game the past two games
