Orgeron called Fournette a “game-time decision” on Monday

Running back Leonard Fournette remains a game-time decision for Thursday nights regular-season finale against Texas A&M.
LSU interim coach Ed Orgeron described Fournette as “day-by-day” on the SEC Coaches Teleconference Wednesday morning as the All-American tailback continues to deal with lingering ankle sprains that’ve limited him all season.
“He’s day by day,” Orgeron said. “We’re going see today to see how he works, but he’s very sore right now. Still day by day.”
Fournette suited up late and played against Florida on Saturday amidst reporters that he would sit out. He saw a heavy workload early but didn’t play in the fourth quarter of the 16-10 loss to the Gators.
He’s been dealing with both a high and low ankle sprain that date back to fall camp, the running back said last week, and the ankle won’t fully heal until the offseason. The preseason Heisman favorite has missed three games this season and left a handful of others in which he re-aggravated the injury.
“It’s been hard on him,” Orgeron said. “It’s been tough, and he’s done everything he can. It’s just a reoccurring injury that enables him to run.”
Fournette ranks second on LSU with 873 yards and eight touchdowns, though he’s averaging 120.4 yards per game on the ground when he plays. Derrius Guice, LSU’s leading rusher, and Darrel Williams would take on expanded workloads if Fournette sits for the fourth time this season.
