Things could soon get complicated in the quest for one of the nation’s best big men in 2017.
Michell Robinson, a consensus top-10 prospect in 2017 from Chalmette, La., announced late Monday night via Twitter his decision to decommit from Western Kentucky.

But since Robinson has already signed a National Letter of Intent with WKU, as announced by the university last week, it’s a little more complicated than that.
Robinson, a top priority for LSU this cycle, will need a release from his NLI in order to be eligible as a freshman, and WKU and head coach Rick Stansbury are under no obligation to grant such a release.
Robinson picked Western Kentucky, where his godfather, Shammond Williams, is an assistant coach, over LSU and Texas A&M, where he was previously committed when Stansbury was an Aggie assistant.
“It’s obvious Mitchell is one of the most talented big guys in the country,” Stansbury said in a release when the school announced his signing. “His best days all lie ahead of him. He has a lot more abilities than just running and jumping and blocking the ball. He has a skillset where he can step out and really shoot the basketball. We’re excited to have him and his family be a part of our program.”
Last year, Robinson posted averages of 20.9 points, 13.6 rebounds, 8.1 blocks and 2.0 steals per game as a junior. He saw his stock rise after a huge summer on the Nike EYBL circuit, where he averaged 15.5 points, 11.6 rebounds and 4.1 blocks per game and earned Second Team All-EYBL honors.
