Ed Orgeron landed a big commitment on Thursday – from a player he’s quite familiar with.
Christian LaCouture, who missed his senior season after suffering a knee injury in fall camp, announced he would return to LSU in 2017 to complete his final year of eligibility.
LaCouture originally planned to leave for the NFL after this season, despite the injury, even going so far as to participate in senior day events last month. But, he told reporters on Thursday, the hiring of Coach O on a permanent basis help sway him to remain in school for another year.
“I really thought at one point I was going to leave,” LaCouture said. “But talking to Coach O, hearing his vision for this football program was amazing and something I want to be a part of.”
LaCouture, 6-foot-5, 300 pound senior, worked at both ends and tackle in the Tigers’ new 3–4 scheme in the fall. He returned to practice for the citrus bowl on Wednesday, sporting a knee brace that he told reporters was medically unnecessary, but maternally required.
“I’m only wearing the brace because my mom told me too,” he said. “She’s a little nervous.”
