Long-time LSU men’s tennis coach Jeff Brown resigned on Monday, the University announced.
Brown, who coached the Tigers for 20 years, leaves as the all-time winningest coach in program history. He compiled an overall record of 312-205 and was 116-116 in the Southeastern Conference.
The coach led the Tigers to back-to-back SEC Championships in 1998 and 1999 and the Tigers advanced to the NCAA Tournament 17 times during his tenure. Brown also led LSU to the national semifinals of the NCAA Tournament in both 1998 and 1999.
The resignation was a “mutual decision,” according to LSU athletic director Joe Alleva.
“We appreciate all that Jeff has done for LSU tennis,” Alleva said through an official release. “We wish Jeff and his family nothing but success in their future endeavors.”
Brown arrived at LSU as a player in 1985 and earned All-SEC honors three times. He was the captain of the 1988 team, the only LSU team to ever reach the NCAA Championship Match. He played professionally for several years before returning to LSU as an assistant coach from 1994-97.
“It’s been a great run,” Brown said in an official release “We had so much success and had so many great people come through our program. I’m proud of all the players that we coached here at LSU and all that we were able to accomplish as a program.”
Alleva will begin a search for Brown’s successor immediately, according to the release.
