LSU added serious scoring to its 2017-18 roster, landing its second grad transfer under Will Wade.
Southern Utah’s Randy Onwuasor, who averaged 23.6 points per game last year, committed to the Tigers on Twitter Saturday. The 6-foot-3 combo guard would be immediately eligible for LSU, with one year of eligibility remaining.
Onwuasor, an Inglewood, Calif. native, led the Big Sky Conference in scoring in 2016-17, shooting 40.6 percent from the floor and 30.6 percent from 3 in his junior season. He originally signed with Texas Tech out of high school, where he played two seasons before transferring to Southern Utah.
LSU now has 12 of its 13 scholarships allotted. The 13th slot is expected to go to Oregon transfer Kavell Bigby-Williams, a 6-foot-11 center and former NJCAA Division 1 Player of the Year. But the Tigers remain in the hunt for 2017 five-star center Mitchell Robinson, who was just granted his release to transfer from Western Kentucky after enrolling there and participating in team workouts this summer. Neither player would likely be eligible for the 2017-18 season, though Robinson – a likely NBA lottery pick – could apply for a waiver from the NCAA.
