BATON ROUGE – LSU sophomore guard Antonio Blakeney was named second team All-Southeastern Conference Tuesday when the vote of the league coaches was announced by the league office.

Blakeney was a member of the freshman All-SEC team a year ago.

Blakeney enters Wednesday’s SEC Tournament in Nashville (6 p.m. CT vs. Mississippi State) averaging 17.4 points overall and 17.7 in the 18 league games. He is fifth in overall scoring and finished fourth in the league in the SEC game totals. For the second straight year, Blakeney has finished with a rush after averaging 18.6 points over the final 10 games of last year.

He is plus 4.8 points over last year’s scoring average and is averaging over 19 points over the last 10 games of the 2017 season. He had a streak of six consecutive games in February scoring over 20 points (4 of 28 or better) and he is the first player to do that since Marcus Thornton had six consecutive over 20 in January-February 2008.

Blakeney now has 22 games in his career of 20 points or more and since the start of the 2010-11 season, Blakeney has moved past Ben Simmons (18) for the most 20 point games since that point by an LSU player.

Blakeney in the last week of the regular season went over 500 points for the 2016-17 season. He is the fourth LSU player since the start of the 2010-11 season to score at least 500 points in a season (joining Simmons, Jarell Martin and Johnny O’Bryant III):

The Florida native is averaging 33.0 minutes per game, fifth in the league. His field goal percentage for the season of 46.1 percent (191-414) is ranked tenth in the SEC.
