In its third year under the leadership of Brian Kelly, LSU is gearing up for a promising season as ESPN predicts their success in all 12 regular season games.
“This offseason has been one of our strongest yet, with players working tirelessly and pushing each other to be better,” exclaimed LSU’s preseason All-American offensive tackle Will Campbell during Fall Camp. “As we enter Year 3, it’s time for us to go beyond just winning 10 games. At LSU, that’s not enough. Ten wins won’t cut it here; it could mean folks getting fired or replaced. It’s time for us to set ourselves apart and bring home a national championship.”
According to ESPN’s FPI (football power index), here is how the Tigers’ season may unfold:
Sept. 1: LSU vs. USC (in Las Vegas) — With a 54.6% chance of victory, LSU heads into their Week 1 match against Lincoln Riley’s Trojans as the favorite.
Sept. 7: LSU vs. Nicholls — In their home opener, LSU faces off against Nicholls with an overwhelming 98.2% probability of winning.
Sept. 14: LSU at South Carolina — As they travel to Columbia for their first game in South Carolina since 2008, LSU will have to put their defense to the test against a determined Gamecocks offense. Despite this challenge, ESPN foresees a win for the Tigers with a 63% chance of success.
Sept. 21: LSU vs. UCLA — The Bruins make their way to Baton Rouge for a prime time showdown in Week 4, but ESPN still gives LSU the upper hand with a nearly 80% chance of emerging victorious.
Sept. 28: LSU vs. South Alabama — As they host South Alabama in their final non-conference game of September, LSU has a solid opportunity to showcase their young talent and build confidence before heading into the SEC schedule. ESPN gives them a 90% chance of securing the win.
Oct. 12: LSU vs. Ole Miss — In what many consider to be the toughest game on LSU’s schedule, the Tigers will face off against an Ole Miss team that has been highly active in the Transfer Portal and boasts a strong starter in Jaxson Dart at quarterback. Despite this challenge, ESPN favors LSU with a 62.1% chance of winning.
Oct. 19: LSU at Arkansas — As they head to Fayetteville for Week 7, LSU will have to hold off Sam Pittman’s Razorbacks who are looking to pull off an upset at home. While LSU enters as the favorite, one thing is certain – it will be a close and intense game.
Oct. 26: LSU at Texas A&M — In another highly anticipated matchup, LSU takes on their longtime rival Texas A&M on the road. With a slim advantage of just 47.1%, according to ESPN, LSU will have to give it their all to come out on top against the Aggies.
Nov. 9: LSU vs. Alabama – 36.7% chance of winning – Week 9 brings one of college football’s biggest rivalries as the Alabama Crimson Tide come to Death Valley. It will be the first year under head coach Kaleb DeBoer, with LSU currently favored to win.
Nov. 16: LSU at Florida – 53.4% chance of winning – The Tigers travel to The Swamp to face the Florida Gators in November, another challenging road game for the program. The status of current head coach Billy Napier is uncertain, but playing in Gainesville is always a challenge. LSU holds a slight edge as the favorite.
Nov. 23: LSU vs. Vanderbilt – 86.2% chance of winning – After surviving a difficult stretch, LSU will host the Vanderbilt Commodores in a less daunting matchup. While they are still an SEC opponent, the Tigers are heavily favored in this game and can use it as an opportunity to prepare for their postseason fate.
