On multiple occasions this week, LSU coach Ed Orgeron has spoke publicly about the need for the Tigers to add at least one more premier running back to its 2019 class.
That pursuit took an interesting turn on Thursday.
Five-star Destrehan running back and top LSU target John Emery de-committed from Georgia on Thursday afternoon, the elite prospect announced via a tweet.

Emery initially committed to the Bulldogs this summer in a move that surprised many in the recruiting world. The tailback was at Tiger Stadium for a visit when LSU dominated Georgia 36-16 two weeks ago, according to a report from 247Sports.
LSU already holds a commitment from a blue chip Louisiana running back in four-star Tyrion Davis of Southern Lab. Davis is ranked as the No. 8 running back in the 2019 cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
“We think LSU should get the best running back in the country,” Orgeron said at the New Orleans QB Club on Tuesday. “There’s one not far from here.”
That would certainly seem like a reference to Emery, who is regarded as one of the truly elite running backs in a strong 2019 class. LSU has also been linked to Noah Cain and Trey Saunders of the IMG Academy.
