Antonio Blakeney’s record-setting rookie season in the NBA G-League didn’t go unnoticed.
The former Tiger shooting guard was named G-League Rookie of the Year on Thursday, capping off a high-scoring season in his first year as a pro.
Blakeney, a two-way player with the Chicago Bulls in the NBA and the Windy City Bulls in the G-League, led the league in scoring with 32.0 points per game, with 6.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.25 steals per game in 32 games for Windy City,
“Antonio had an outstanding year with the Windy City Bulls. He took full advantage of the opportunity to develop his game and skill set,” said Chicago Bulls General Manager Gar Forman. “On behalf of the entire Bulls organization, we are thrilled to congratulate Antonio and are proud to see him being recognized among his rookie class.”
The league’s 26 head coaches and general managers selected Blakeney for the award. He scored 40 points or more seven times – including a franchise-record 46 points against the Maine Red Claws on Dec. 6 – and shot 46.2 percent from the floor, 35.4 percent from 3, and 86.2 percent at the line.
