BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – LSU seniors Sahvanna Jaquish and Bailey Landry, along with junior Carley Hoover have been named to the 2017 Preseason All-SEC team the league announced Wednesday morning.
Hoover is making her second consecutive appearance on the team after being selected to the annual list last season as a sophomore. Landry and Jaquish are on the preseason list for the first time in their careers.
The three selections tied for the most on the team with Florida and Georgia, as only five teams could lay claim to having multiple players on the 15-member squad.
The Clemson, South Carolina, native earned a team-leading 22 wins in the circle for the Tigers in 2016, striking out 225 batters in 194.1 innings of work, as Hoover became the first player since 2013 to earn 20 pitching victories in a season.
Jaquish finished her junior season last year by matching her program-best RBI total with 76, hitting .343 with 19 doubles and 13 home runs. She sported a .982 fielding percentage which tied for the second highest on the team on the year.
Tying with Jaquish for the third-most hits on the squad with 69 was Landry, who led the team and the SEC with six triples. Landry also added six doubles and three home runs, batting .324 with 11 stolen bases in starting all 70 games for the Tigers.
LSU opens the 2017 regular season with a doubleheader on February 10, opening the Tiger Classic against Oklahoma State and Penn State.
The Preseason All-SEC Softball Team is voted on by the league’s head coaches and consists of a minimum of 14 players. Each SEC head coach voted for five infielders, four outfielders, three pitchers, one catcher and one designated player/utility. No ties were broken.
