Jaden Hill’s oh-to-short freshman season is officially over.
The promising right-handed pitcher underwent surgery on Thursday and will miss the remainder of the season, LSU coach Paul Mainieri confirmed on Friday.
Hill has been out since February due to arm soreness, but the surgery is not related to that ailment, according to Mainieri. Hill had a screw removed from the plate attached to his collar bone from an old football injury.
“Nothing to do with his throwing arm,” Mainieri said.
The freshman began the season in LSU’s weekend rotation and made two starts before going on the shelf. He was 1-0 and pitched to a 1.80 ERA in 10 innings.
There was optimism as recently as two weeks ago that Hill might be able to return for the postseason, but those hopes diminished once a setback cancelled a scheduled simulated game.
