Watchlist season rolls on, and the latest Tiger to find his name up for position-based honors in Jonathan Giles.
The junior from Missouri City, Texas by way of Texas Tech landed a spot on the preseason Biletnikoff Award Watch List. The award goes to college football’s top receiver, an honor previously claimed by former Tiger Josh Reed in 2001.
Giles, who will wear No. 7 this season as LSU’s symbolic go-to playmaker, sat out last season after grabbing 69 receptions for 1,158 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2016. He’ll be the focal point of LSU’s new pass-focused offense as the only proven receiver in the room. Offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger and passing game coordinator Jerry Sullivan have spent the offseason building an attack that will feature fewer runs and more throws toward receivers, the position group Ensminger feels is his most talented on offense.
Giles also made an appearance on the list in 2016. He’s one of a number of transfers the Tigers will count on in big roles in 2018.
