Leonard Fournette is going to get his chance to put on of the NFL’s lowliest franchises on the map.
The Jacksonville Jaguars selected the All-American LSU tailback fourth overall in Thursday night’s NFL Draft.
Fournette is the highest drafted LSU tailback since Jerry Stovall in 1963. He’s the 11th top-five selection in program history.
The top high school recruit in the nation coming out of St. Augustine in New Orleans, Fournette took over as LSU’s feature back halfway through his true freshman season. He would’ve been a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2015 were it not for a late-season swoon. An ankle injury limited him this season.
Fournette is one of three LSU players in attendance expected to be taken in the first round of the NFL Draft. The other two are defensive backs Jamal Adams and Tre’Davious White.
