The long-awaited return of Florida to Tiger Stadium will take place under the lights in Tiger Stadium today as the SEC announced on Twitter that the game will kick off at 7 p.m. on Oct. 12.
With both teams currently holding a place in the Associated Press Top 10, many expected CBS to pick up the game and slate it for 2:30 p.m., but the network station opted for Alabama-Texas A&M, allowing ESPN to claim the rights and schedule a kickoff after sunset.
LSU fans celebrated the announcement on Twitter, as it comes after back-to-back games in which the Tigers will play at 11 a.m., including the earliest non-conference kickoff in Tiger Stadium in decades this Saturday against Utah State.
It’s been three years since Florida last came to Baton Rouge, after a dispute over a game rescheduled due to a hurricane led to back-to-back showdowns in the Swamp the last two seasons.
Despite Florida losing starting quarterback Feleipe Franks to a season-ending injury against Kentucky, the Gators remain undefeated going into its match-up with No. 7 Auburn in its first of two consecutive games against Top 10 teams.
