LSU hoops to face Texas Tech in 2017 SEC-Big 12 Challenge

BATON ROUGE – The matchups for the fourth SEC/Big 12 Challenge presented by Sonic were announced on Tuesday by ESPN and the two leagues and LSU will be involved again, this time on the road traveling to Lubbock to face Texas Tech.

The fourth annual event matches all 10 of the Big 12 members against 10-of-the-14 programs from the Southeastern Conference. Each conference will host five games with the network assignments and tip times to be announced at a later date.

The 10 games will all be played as they were last year all on the same Saturday, this time Jan. 28, 2017. Seven of the 10 games will be televised on ESPN or ESPN2 with the remainder on ESPNU. All 10 games will also be available via WatchESPN.

LSU at Texas Tech

Baylor at Ole Miss
Kansas at Kentucky
Texas A&M at West Virginia
Florida at Oklahoma
Iowa State at Vanderbilt
Kansas State at Tennessee
Arkansas at Oklahoma State
Auburn at TCU

LSU is appearing in the event for the third straight year, having won at nationally-ranked West Virginia in Dec. 2014 and losing in nationally-ranked Oklahoma in January of this year.

LSU and Texas Tech played a recent home-and-home series with LSU winning both games – 71-69 in Dec. 2013 in Lubbock and 69-64 in overtime at the Maravich Center in Nov. 2014. The teams have played six times overall since the first meeting in 1957 with Texas Tech winning the first three meetings and LSU the last three.

It is expected that with this date now set for the Challenge that the SEC teams will open their conference season prior to Jan. 1 in the week after Christmas.
