LSU’s hole at linebacker in the class of 2017 just got a little thinner.
The Tigers secured the commitment of three-star inside linebacker prospect Monty Rice on Monday morning, beating out Georgia, Auburn, and a host of other suitors in pursuit of Rice.
The 6-foot-1, 227 pounder hails from Alabama and is ranked the No. 743 prospect nationally by 247Sports.com. Rice visited LSU last week and will sign financial aid papers shortly to affirm his commitment to LSU.
Rice is an early enrollee who should arrive on campus in January at a spot of need. LSU has 18 commitments for the 2017 class, but had only one linebacker — four star Patrick Queen — on board before Rice’s pledge.
The Madison, Ala. native is the No. 31 middle linebacker prospect in the country, per 247, finished his senior season at James Clemens High School with 137 tackles, one sack, four interceptions, seven tackles for loss, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and four touchdowns in 12 games.
