Naz Reid declares for NBA Draft

Five days after his freshman season ended in the Sweet 16 with a 80-63 loss to Michigan State in Washington D.C., LSU star freshman forward Naz Reid has declared for the NBA Draft via a post on Instagram.

“Attending LSU and playing as a Tiger this year has been an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything,” Reid said in the post. “I want to say thank you to every single person who helped me along the way; I wouldn’t be here without your love and support.
It is with this that I announce I will be leaving LSU to pursue my dream of being a professional basketball player. I will be entering the NBA Draft with an agent in hopes of finally fulfilling a dream I believe is my destiny”.

Reid averaged 13.6 points and 7.2 rebounds while playing 27.2 minutes per game during his freshman season.

He earned a single Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week accolade on Feb. 11 as well as a spot on the SEC’s All-Freshman at the season’s end.

ESPN’s latest 2019 Mock Draft has Reid currently going No. 47 to the Detroit Pistons as a 6-foot-10 PF/C.

Although he is allowed to hire an agent — the deadline to do which is April 11 — Reid has the option to go through the process and withdraw from the draft as long as he does so within 10 days after the NBA Draft Combine, making this year’s deadline May 25.

LSU sophomore point guard Tremont Waters did just that last season before opting to return to the program.

Waters is another person to expected to once again at least take his chances in the NBA pre-draft process, though he is yet to make an official announcement.
