LSU just got even thinner at offensive tackle.
Redshirt-freshman offensive tackle Chidi Okeke announced Tuesday that he’ll transfer to another school to continue his career.
According to a tweet from Okeke, LSU granted the tackle a release from his scholarship. However, an LSU spokesman told Tiger Rag the school isn’t confirming that at this time.
Okeke played in every game this season as a member of LSU’s special teams units but hasn’t been able to crack the offensive line, even amid a rash of injuries and position shuffling. LSU’s tackles this season were a rotation of K.J. Malone, Maea Teuhema and Toby Weathersby.
Measuring an athletic 6-foot-6 and 312 pounds, Okeke arrived at LSU as a five-star prospect with immense physical talent. However, originally from Africa, he faced a steep learning curve as he redshirted his freshman year to better learn the game of football.
Announcement for all my well wishers and coaches, I just got my release from LSU. I'm looking forward to know where I'm going next!
