The LSU quarterback competition has been cut in half.
Quarterback Lowell Narcisse has left the football program and intends to transfer to another school, the redshirt-freshman announced in a tweet on Tuesday night. Fellow competitor Justin McMillan took the night to sleep on it but ultimately followed Narcisse out the door with an announcement tweet of his own on Wednesday morning.

Rumors swirled as both Narcisse and Justin McMillan, half of LSU’s quarterback competition, were conspicuously absent from practice on Tuesday afternoon. Transfer Joe Burrow and sophomore Myles Brennan are now the only scholarship quarterbacks left on LSU’s roster and will presumably continue to battle for the starting job.
Walk-on Andre Sale, formerly of Tennessee Tech, will likely be the third-string quarterback. He obtained a waiver to be eligible to play this season if needed. Jordan Loving, a walk-n from Riverside Academy, is the only other quarterback on the roster in camp.
McMillan graduated from LSU earlier this month, so he’ll be eligible to play right away at another Division I school as a graduate transfer. He’s got two years of collegiate eligibility remaining.
The situation is a bit more complicated for Narcisse, who took his redshirt last season. He could play right away at a junior college but would have to sit out a season if he decided to transfer to another Division I school. He’s got four years of eligibility remaining.
Quarterback attrition is nothing new for LSU. Narcisse’s announcement comes exactly one year to the day after Lindsey Scott, another in-state prospect, announced he’d transfer in the middle of his second fall camp.
