The player who wore the coveted No. 7 jersey last season is expected to finish his career elsewhere.
Wide receiver Jonathan Giles entered his name in the transfer portal and is expected to leave the program as a graduate transfer, LSU sources told Tiger Rag. Giles is on track to graduate this summer.
Giles transferred to LSU prior to the 2017 season and entered last season as a starting receiver. He led Texas Tech with 1,158 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns on 69 catches prior to arriving in Baton Rouge.
LSU awarded Giles the No. 7 jersey coming out of spring ball to signify expectations that he’d be an go-to playermaker. He caught 10 passes for 59 yards last season and switched to No. 12 midyear.
The Tigers return a deep, talented receiving corps in 2019 led by Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, Terrace Marshall, Stephen Sullivan and Dee Anderson.
Giles also handled punt return duties for most of last season, returning 13 punts for an average of 7.1 yards with a long of 22. Freshman Derek Stingley Jr. is expected to be LSU’s punt returner this season.
