Timing is Everything | LSU makes OC hire official ahead of pivotal recruiting weekend

LSU couldn’t have waited much longer to officially get its new offensive coordinator in place.

The recruiting dead period that’s been in effect since December comes to an end Thursday, meaning coaches can once again meet face-to-face with recruits and host them on campus. It’s the unofficial start of the sprint down the home stretch in each recruiting cycle.

LSU is set to host four high-profile official visitors this weekend, including a quarterback, as the Tigers look to fill out the final spots of the 2018 class before National Signing Day.

Five-star cornerback Patrick Surtain Jr., five-star wide receiver JaMarr Chase and four-star quarterback James Foster, LSU’s top targets at their respective positions, each tweeted that they’ll be in Baton Rouge this weekend. Four-star cornerback Mario Goodrich will also be on campus, according to a report from 247Sports.

The Tigers signed 21 of a possible 25 players during the Early Signing Period and landed a commitment from four-star defensive back Kelvin Joseph last weekend. That leaves three more spots to fill barring any drastic changes. LSU hasn’t signed a quarterback or cornerback yet in 2018, but the Tigers already have three receivers signed on in Terrace Marshall Jr., Jaray Jenkins and Kenan Jones.
