Neither of LSU’s two NBA Draft early entrants, freshman Tremont Waters and junior Brandon Sampson, landed invites to the 2018 Draft Combine in Chicago.
The NBA’s list of invitees came out Friday, with neither Tiger finding his way into the list of 69 players.
Sampson, who signed with an agent and has been training for the draft in Miami, will not return to LSU, but Waters, an SEC All-Freshman team member, will likely withdraw from the draft before the end of the month. Because he has not hired an agent, he is eligible to return to LSU for his sophomore season.
Waters led LSU in scoring (15.9 points per game) and assists (6.0) in 2017-18, setting a freshman record and finishing second in LSU’s history in single-season assists. He is expected to be a prominent part of a 2018-19 team already earning preseason top 25 nods.
Sampson, meanwhile, will have to follow in the footsteps of Antonio Blakeney, who left LSU last year and landed a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls, despite not earning a combine invite. Blakeney went on to earn G-League Rookie of the Year honors.
